Social commitment — care as a social responsibility

Social responsibility is part of our work — much of it runs today through our non-profit partner association Leben Pflegen Reisen e.V. Here we show where this stance comes from and what the collaboration looks like.

Carried together with our partner association Leben Pflegen Reisen e.V.

For bedside companions, hospice companions and travel companionship we work closely with the non-profit association Leben Pflegen Reisen e.V. The association contributes a volunteer network and many years of experience in accompanying people who need support on journeys — a complement to our paid nursing shifts, so that families are left alone neither in the final hours of a life nor on a last journey together.

Who works with us

The people who work with us are often those for whom the standard system made returning to work difficult: the long-term unemployed, women who changed career later in life, older carers who were sorted out elsewhere, people from what is known here as the second labour market. A good many of our staff came to us by exactly this route.

We train them, support them, and give them a setting in which they can grow. And we notice every day how much warmth, patience and life experience they bring to the work — qualities that standardised job profiles never ask about, but that make the difference in daily work with people.

Where our stance comes from

Heilpraxis Frommholz grew out of the non-profit Krankenpflege Frommholz — a charitable company that has for years organised support in Berlin for people who struggle to find a place in the standard system. That experience shapes us to this day: in whom we employ, in our readiness to take on difficult client constellations (see complex needs one-to-one care), and in how we approach questions of inclusion.

Training and placement positions

We regularly offer places for young people on a voluntary social year and for career changers with an interest in this field. In particular for people who, after a crisis in their life or a change of profession, want to move into work that means something. That too is part of what we understand by social commitment: creating places where gaining experience and finding a profession are possible.

Specific role descriptions can be found on our careers page — in particular Paid voluntary work: bedside companions and Continuing to work in retirement are frequent points of entry.

What this means for our clients

We take on enquiries that others turn away: difficult psychiatric histories, advanced dementia with challenging behaviour, complex palliative companionship, clients without a stable social network. Not because we can do everything — but because our stance is to look, rather than to look away.

And we take the time not to work in fifteen-minute intervals where the actual work with the person happens. That is only possible because we work privately paid, without insurer bureaucracy — a decision that has its price, but that creates the setting in which socially minded work of this kind is possible at all.

We welcome applications — particularly from people who have fallen through the net elsewhere. And we listen when you are looking, for yourself or a relative, for support that is more than piecework.
